Amicalola Falls - Approach Trail

Approach Trail to the Appalachian Trail

Thursday, February 10th, 2022

Today was the start of the Approach Trail.  I was able to secure a shuttle ride from Ron's AT Shuttle service from Atlanta to Amicalola Falls Lodge. Ron used to be a park ranger in Amicalola Falls State Park and is a wealth of knowledge about the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. He shared tips and advice on the shuttle ride north.

I'm number 138!

I checked into the visitor's center and received my Appalachian Trail tag. I am number 138. This is my new lucky number! I'm spending the night at Amicalola Falls Lodge. Tomorrow hiking to Len Foote Hike Inn and Saturday I finish the Approach Trail to the top of Springer Mountain. Springer Mountain is the start of Appalachian Trail.

The staircase to the Amicalola Falls is 604 steps.  This 730 foot waterfall is taller than Niagara Falls!

I'll have to wait a month to see flowers.

The reflection pond. Look closely towards the top of trees to see the waterfall.

This map of the Appalachian Trail is gigantic.
